Featured Information

Commodities and Products

  • Catfish - Did you know that farm-raised catfish are the fourth most popular seafood consumed in the United States? Only shrimp, tuna and cod are more popular.

  • Eggs - Americans are eating fewer in-shell eggs but more processed egg products such as frozen and dried eggs. This coincides with the domestic trend toward increased consumption of prepared foods and fast foods, which often incorporate processed eggs.

  • Onions - Onions are one of the three largest and most highly valued vegetable crops. Traditionally, Northern states grow storage onions, which are harvested in the fall, stored and sold from September to March. Southern states grow fresh market onions, which are shipped immediately and sold from March to August.

Markets and Industries

  • Tourism - What are the chacteristics of typical domestic travelers? According to the Travel Industry Association of America, they take short trips (two nights or less) to visit family and friends, driving their own vehicle to the destination. While there, their most common activities are shopping and dining.
