Fact Sheet Describes Rainwater Catchment from High Tunnels

Iowa State University Extension is making available Rainwater Catchment from a High Tunnel for Irrigation Use, a seven-page fact sheet that describes a system to catch, store, and reuse rainwater for irrigation in high tunnels. Approximately 900 gallons of water will flow from the roof of a 30' by 96' high tunnel during a half-inch rain event.

The fact sheet describes how to build a system to catch, store and reuse therainwater for irrigation in a high tunnel. The cost of installing rain gutters, rainwater storage tanks, and an electric pump is estimated at $1,200. Asolar-powered pumping system will add approximately $700 to that cost.

Comments

This fact sheet will surely be useful to all farmers out there. Whats best is that it is free to download. In my eyes, this is the future-making use (and re-use) of everything Mother Nature grants us, be it water, sun, or wind.
