Celery

Overview

Celery has nutritional properties and versatility that have made it a relatively common item in the grocery cart. During 2010, U.S. consumers used an average of 6.2 pounds of fresh celery per person (ERS 2011).

According to the USDA, the 2010 crop of celery totaled 20.3 million cwt, and at an average price of $19.70 per cwt (crate weight based on 60 pounds per crate), the total value of celery was $398.9 million (NASS 2011).

The United States continues to be a net exporter of celery. Likewise, Canada remains the largest market for U.S. celery, receiving about 94,110 metric tons of fresh-market celery, a slight increase from the previous year (FAS 2010).  May 2011 ... Celery
