Corn Ethanol Profitability

The ethanol industry started as a new marketing outlet for farmers, providing additional revenue and creating jobs in the renewable energy industry throughout the United States.

But, the ethanol industry has suffered in the past year, with waning subsidies and mandates, a severe drought in 2012 and overall competition between food vs. fuel. Almost 10 percent of the nation's ethanol plants have stopped producing in the past year.
